Email preview pane odd margin

Recently, some, though not all, of my emails display the email content in the preview pane pushed up to the left margin of the pane, well left of the margin used in the header. Same issue in Classic layout. The appearance is awkward and I see no settings for margins or other adjustments to the content of the preview pane.
Any suggestions?

Give this a try:

Open Mail, then go to Mail Preferences (shortcut to this is - Command plus comma on keyboard).

When in Mail Preferences, Click on "Viewing". Four down is "List Preview". Make sure that is set to "None".

Then, always a good idea anyway, Quit out of Mail. NB Quit, not close. Shortcut is Command plus Q.

Then reopen Mail.

Hmmmm....that's just the number of lines used for preview in the email list. Doesn't really have anything to do with the content of the preview pane. Tried it anyway. No change to the affected emails.
