I have a late 2010 Mackbook pro 17 inch screen that has has new ssdi hard drive and new 16 gig of ram. The chassis was replaced previously. Everything is updated. I am a a loss as to why I can't download Mojave. Can someone tell me why technically why I cant use the new OIS?

If anyone can answer this I would appreciate it.

Welcome to the forum.

Mojave uses a graphics API called Metal. Your older MBP doesn't have a GPU that supports Metal. So, you can't run Mojave on it. You can read more about Metal here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_(API)

Jake has already answered your question, but don't get too caught up with the "new and improved" hype and you probably still have a decent working Mac there, depending on what you do with it.

If you need some feature that only Mojave can provide, then you'll need a newer Mac from at least 2012 era or later.

+1 for what Patrick said. That MBP should be good for a couple of years more. You may need to think about upgrading to a newer model when your applications start to fall behind, or when there is an application you want that requires a more recent version of the OS, but if you are running happy with HS, stick with it.

Sorry Daimo, but Metal is indeed, this time anyway, why your perfectly good MBP will not install Mojave. I feel your pain my friend as I am setting here with a 17" MBP also in good shape that can't run it either, and a MacPro desktop with all kinds of horse power that won't run it. Hate to tell you but see the top listed system in my listing, a brand spankin new iMac 27" i7 processor etc, etc, just left the Apple facility and is aboard a FedEx plane winging it's way to me as I type...Some where between 5 to 7 years down the road it will probably be facing the same problem...It's called progress...though we some times wonder. What it all boils down to actually is the old saying " If your gonna play, you gonna pay ", and pay, and pay...

Hey James. Good to hear from you. Hope all is well.

If you need sommeone to field test that new gear I'll volunteer. No need to divert the FedEx guy. I can pick it up at your place.;) Of course to be thorough my testing might have to take a while

Hmmm...??? That looks like it's almost a day's drive just one way Sly, but maybe worth it for you. :Smirk:

PS: Has that continual bouncing ball not driven you a bit crazy by now???

If it helps James outand makes sure he gets top quality goods I'll make the sacrifice.:Mischievous: Besides SWMBO would be doing the driving. You aren't by chance hoping he volunteers to send it your way are you?:)

I'm no worse off than I was when I started the bouncing ball so no great loss there. Might have to look for something with a bit more holiday cheer though.

Wow. Thanks Patrick.

Only one problem. That guy looks like he's plotting to overthrow something. Don't want to make the forum admins suspicious. At least not yet.

LOL, we are already suspicious of you. Better put that piece of tape over your iMac's camera.

Sounds like a good deal to me Sly, I have been worried about getting the new stuff field tested, figured I could depend on you to offer to do it. Not that far a drive from here to there so if you have a good breakfast before you leave I can buy you lunch and dinner in Fort Smith for your trouble and put you up for the night. As far as taking some time goes I was thinking maybe six months as I want to be sure it is working perfect...

Glad to see you haven't lost your sense of humor.

That's a great offer but SWMBO has apparently conluded that there is a huge problem with my offeer. Apparently, if I test it for that long she's afraid I will decide to keep it. You don't think I would try something like that do you.O:) That would leave you in a real bind. In any case it's probably best I leave the testing up to you. Be sure you let us know how you like it.

Only problem I see with it at the moment is it seems to be stuck in a warehouse in Shanghai for the last 3 days !!! Drives me nuts every time I check the tracking number and it says it is still there...

Sounds like UPS shipping. I saw the same thing when I bought from Apple and it was stuck in one location for 3 days. But it did arrive on the promised date, so I guess I can't complain that they "wasted" three days.
