I was changing a hard drive from one computer to a another, and thought it was powered down, forgot to unhook the battery connection to the computer was not off it was still powered up and when i pulled the hard drive from the original computer now the drive when connected the OS does not complete. This has happened in the past and i had somebody fix the OS and i did not lose any of the files, Can anybody tell me how to fix this.

G'day and welcome to the forums.

There may be no actual fix as ther drive may have been corrupted by unplugging when power was on. By 'does not complete' do you mean the operating system does not fully load? Have you tried connecting the damaged drive externally via a USB caddy etc and seeing if it is visible in Disk Utility?

If it appears, select it in Disk Utility and run Repair Disk or Disk First Aid, depending on whatever version of OS X is installed. Always include the Mac model and operating system.

The challenge is that because the drive was powered on, you have no way of knowing what it was doing when you cut off the power to it. If it was updating the partition data, you are basically not going to easily get that data back. If it was idling, you may have a better chance. As you have been asked, what do you mean by "does not complete?"

Well, FIXED! The fix was stupid !
3hr on the phone with mac support (NOTHING ) surprise lol
I then used a old drive with 10??? something OS, When the (not working) drive is plugged in externally, in disk utility, I can see it but it, but that's it , I up dated the 10?os to Mojave and then the not working drive Worked just fine! fully functional, I them pulled out the old drive and put the fixed one back in and WOW booted just fine!
So I think that Mojave must update a cmos or something on the mother board???? You would think apple support would know that :(

Glad you got it sorted. I cannot make out what you actually did, exactly, but it's good that you got it sorted. And yes, there was a firmware update with Mojave installation. You never mentioned which Mac or what version of macOS you were using. In addition to the firmware update, there was a disk format change from HFS+ to APFS for Mojave. I suspect the non working drive had been updated to APFS and your older version of macOS couldn't read the new format.
