How do I delete the Mojave download from my iMac? There is a file called macOS Install Data. Do I just delete that?

Yes, you should delete that file/folder since that's what happens after a successful install.

I am still getting requests to install Mojave

I am getting similar requests on my 2007 15" MacBook Pro if you can believe that, and the old methods to get rid of it do not seem to work.

I would've thought Apple would've got their "stuff" together and exempted older Macs that can't even think of running it. Just another Apple annoyance I guess.

Do I have to download Mojave just to get rid of the stupid nagging as I had to do on my 2011 iMac for an earlier version???

Getting rid of Mojave

There doesn't seem to be an option to delete it. I even tried moving it to the Trash but got this message:

“macOS Install Data” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by macOS.

It is a protected folder, so you'll have to do a little bit of work to remove it.

To do so, power down the Mac and then get into the Recovery Console by holding down CMD+r when you power up the Mac. Once you are in the recovery console, open up a Terminal window and enter the following command
Code:
csrutil disable

Now reboot the machine and let it boot up normally. You should be able to move the "macOS Install Data" folder to the Trash and empty it.

Then, get back into the Recovery Console and re-open the Terminal window and enter the following command

Code:
csrutil enable

Now reboot normally.

macOS, refers to Sierra, High Sierra, and Mojave. Just saying.

I did as you suggested but the Terminal came up with {bash-3.2#. Couldn't delete that but entered csrutil disable after it and got "command not found"

I have also spoken to Apple and the chap thinks that it is finding Mojave on my Time Machine. As I use an Apple Time Capsule disconnection would mean that I could no longer access the Internet, so problematical!

Just wondering here, but what does your "About this Mac" say about what OS X version you are running.

That message usually comes when a much earlier OS X version is installed, up to and including Mavericks I believe.

It says that 10.13.6 is running but that is after restarting using the disk with 10.13.6. This suggests to me, as a non-expert, that the Apple guy is right and Mojave is on the external hard drive. That’s Apple Time capsule. I don’t know how to remove it from there.

To be honest having to restart occasionally is more an inconvenience than anything else. But would it mean that restoring from Time Capsule would open my iMac with Mojave?

Why does it matter if there is a file on your Mac? macOS has to do with Sierra, High Sierra, or Mojave. How do you know that folder is not being used by your current macOS High Sierra? Maybe you should not try to remove it?

What are the end results you are trying to receive? Is it still, "to not receive Mojave upgrade notifications?" Or, is it to install Mojave?

No, you won't be able to download Mojave, as Mojave only works with 2012 or newer Macs.

Thanks Bob, and you and I both know that, but my point was why doesn't Apple's software recognize the fact and quit nagging my iMac about something that can't happen or work. …???

Sloppy and annoying IMO, which seems to be getting quite common with a lot of Apple stuff lately.

They failed miserably if that is their idea of suggesting I get a newer Mac just to run their latest macOS that contains nothing I want or need and also adds more restrictions with some pretense that it will make me more protected and secure. No thank you Apple.

PS: BTW, no problem to download Mojave if I wanted or needed to right from the Apple Store it seems:

Because the App Store doesn't know you or the Mac in question, until you ask it to. The way I see it, as a digital Apple circular, where you browse to find what you want. You can turn off Notifications, if you don't want them

And that is just one of the problems — there is no f^%$#'n way to disable any notification, banner, or pop-up notice etc. that works that I have found so far.

What OS version are you using? Is there a reason you don't list your Mac in the sidebar?

Normally Mavericks, 10.9.5 and sometimes El Capitan 10.11.6, very seldom Sierra, and no real reason other than none, for what it's worth.
