The iPhoto Library is on a friend's LaCie external drive that is formatted as MSDOS FAT 32. He says he has been using it with iPhoto on his MacBook Pro (early 2011) with no problems. Can we copy the iPhoto Library off of the LaCie and onto his MacBook Pro's HD (MacOS Extended Journaled) with no problem? There is plenty of space on the HD for the library. The goal is to then erase the LaCie and reformat it to MacOS extended Journaled and copy the library back onto it.

Yes, a Mac can read the FAT32 format, but cannot write to it. So, you should be able to just attach the LaCie and copy the library to the internal drive, then use Disk Utility to reformat the drive as you said and then copy the iPhoto database back to it. Once there, you'll need to open iPhoto preferences and tell iPhoto to use that database again, even if the drive has the same name as before.

Mac can write to any FAT, the only format type Mac can’t write to is NTFS.

Bob, you are exactly right. I suffered a brain-lock on that one. Thanks for correcting it.
