Help Please.... Im backing my iPhone X up to my Mac Book Pro using iTunes 12.9. Also Im running Mojave. I watched all the videos on how to get to the "Library" then "Application Support" and then to "Mobile Sync." I then copied the "Backup" folder to my External Hard Drive. I then Erased the "Backup" folder from the Mobile Sync folder. After that I was told to paste something like this:

ln -s /Volumes/mac1tb\ 1/Backup /Users/djtee1tb/Library/Application\ Support/MobileSync/Backup

It was created with my external direction as well as my internal HD name. after 100 different variations and then pasting it into TERMINAL I get this:

"Operation Not Permitted"

I see older posts where this worked. Is it not working for me because I updated to Mojave? Am I doing something wrong? Im confused. Anyone have any idea how to accomplish this task using Mojave? Thanks in advance.

It's easier to just backup your iPhone to iCloud. And what you are trying to do is not to backup you iPhone to the MBP as opposed to an external drive that is linked to your MBP. Why not just backup normally (without doing the linking) and then copy the contents of the MobileSync or any related folder to the external drive?

Ashwin is correct - it is easier to backup to iCloud but if you are like a friend of mine who will not use the cloud.... Anyway, I am willing to bet before you run the command line in terminal you might need to fix permissions. Take a look at this article:

It seems like he/she is trying to backup the backup by moving it to an external drive. Time Machine and/or CCC will do that during a normal backup session. Or just use a third party app such as iMazing 2 which will store your iOS backups anywhere you designate.

And like Ashwin pointed out, backup to iCloud. Interesting that Lisa mentioned about her friend that won't use iCloud. I've likewise run into folks who do not trust anything about iCloud.
