    Creating Mojave bootable drive
I'm trying to create a bootable Mojave USB drive. I've done this many times before with previous OSs.
I have downloaded the full Mojave installer and when I issue the terminal command:

    sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Mojave --nointeraction

I am getting the following error:
To use this tool, you must download the macOS installer application on a Mac with 10.12.5 or later, or El Capitan 10.11.6. For more information, please see the following: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT201372.

I have tried this on two Macs, one has OS 10.11.6 and the other 10.12.6

If that command is fighting you, give Diskmaker X a shot.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

I tried the Apple way first (see my original post). It tells me I have the wrong OS version, and I dont. I have tried this on two Macs, one has OS 10.11.6 and the other 10.12.6

Don't know if this procedure differs significantly from the Apple way...give it a shot:

Looks like your attempt of using the Apple way might have messed things up. The first FAQ for Diskmaker X tells you how to resolve this issue.

So I tried this way https://www.imore.com/how-create-boo...erating-system as pigoo suggested. I get the same error about not having the correct OS.

I also tried what Raz0rEdge suggested, looking in the volumes folder, but the only items listed were the hard drive and thumb drive.

Im stumped. Apple is making thing harder and harder to do simple things. I shoulnt have to waste days with this!

Did you see this, "* If your Mac is using macOS Sierra or earlier, include the --applicationpath argument. The Sierra and El Capitan commands show the proper format of this argument." when you tried it?

You are trying to download an installer which expects that you will have the preceding macOS already ie. High Sierra. My suggestion would be to download and install High Sierra OS 10.13 and update everything first. This is always a good idea in any case. This will also convert your OS filing system to APFS which will be compatible with Mojave. You may well find that the Apple way (using Terminal) will then work. In the past before the introduction of the new filing system upgrading to an OS 2-3 versions above the one you had was no big deal although ideally sequential updating is usually best due to software versions.
You will also need the latest version of DismakerX if you choose to go that way.
Lastly check that your devices are compatible with Mojave first (and High Sierra). A simple Google search for compatibility will tell you that.
I used to be conceited but now I'm perfect.

And I'm sure you have already beaten this idea to death, but do remember that Diskmaker X is OS specific. In other words, there is a specific Diskmaker X download for each OS.
