I keep all of my regularly used Apps in the dock and since updating to Mojave I have noticed that other Apps that are launched from Launchpad now remain in the dock after I have quit from them.

This wasn't the case with previous operating systems and wondered if anybody has found a way to stop this.

Edit

Found the box to untick in Preferences/Dock 'Show recent applications in dock'.

This is one of the situations which makes me slightly cross.

We all try to read as much as possible about the latest macOS before we commit to it. The "big" changes are highlighted by most sites; but it's the little things that often cause the most frustration. Your experience, pine man, is such an example. Too trivial to be a mainstream discussion point, so you have to get the old grey cells working and guess your way to a solution.

Well done you. My view is that this feature, being new, should not have been "on" by default. Let the user find these "hidden" functions him/her self, I say:)

Hear, hear, Ian! I'd go one further and say they should be OFF and then have a document with all of them so that if you want it you can turn it on. I'm still running through some "changes" from Mojave that are just annoyances, but shouldn't be this hard to address.

I have a tendency to go through System Preferences, each time I upgrade my system. It helps to know what the new things do.

Thanks I posted the same question yesterday after I had looked at the "Dock" app in system..
I just did not see the click for keeping things in the Dock...

Thanks all for the comments - agree that new or changed features can be annoying, especially if poorly documented - well stated!

This 'Dock Feature' of keeping recently used app icons to the right appeared in iOS (maybe Apple felt putting it into macOS?) - below a combo pic from my iPad (now on newest iOS) - left image shows my recently used 3 apps to the right of the vertical bar - went to 'Preferences' and turned off the feature, now the appearance in the right image - actually, I leave the setting on - makes for easy switching between apps. Dave :)
