not sure if its a good idea or not? people seem to be having issues with it. anything I should know before I do it? I like sierra it seems to work fine. I do not have an SSD drive. keynote is now outdated and I'm getting a message I can get a free keynote update if I update to High Sierra.

I hear high sierra has built in encryption but only for people with an SSD drive I think?

I've been on HS since it was first released and have had no issues with it. What issues are you reading about? What Mac do you have? Mojave is just about to come out, so if you don't upgrade, you'll be two releases back, not one.

I have a 2015 retina 4k iMac. 8 gb ram. everything works fine so I don't want to mess something up. cant recall specific issues just remember seeing posts on people having issues with high sierra, I never read them since I don't have high sierra installed yet.

Well, I'd say go for it, making a backup beforehand, of course. HS is pretty stable now, it's been out for quite a while. Some early adopters has some things, but overall, it's been a good release.

Umm, the next version of macOS Mojave is going to come up in 2 days and High Sierra has now been out for well over a year. It's been evaluated, scrutinized, updated in that time and everyone on it is happy. You have a recent enough machine and you should absolutely be upgrading to the new OS' shortly after it releases.

If you don't want to upgrade on day one, then wait for a month to see if any point updates come out and if they do, upgrade and update then.

when I was younger, I would be among the first to install new updates as soon as they came out. now I wait partly because I hate change. And I figure if what I have is working why update (unless its an important security update)? Just installed High Sierra, so far so good. :)

theirs only three things that matter to me now in Apple updates. Faster performance, more privacy and anonymity, and more security. I don't need or want all the other bells and whistles and eye candy apple seems to offer with every update of the MacOS these days.

Also, nobody has the same set up as you. So your experiences will be yours alone. You can read issues that other post about, but they will not "all" happen, because each user uses their device(s) their unique way.

looks like they fixed the slowness (delay) in the finder when copying a file or moving a file to the trash. now it's almost immediate, no more 4-5 second delay that I had to just endure. :) that is a plus! I see a big speed difference in the Finder. What a difference! Thank you MacInWin for talking me into going for it.

Delay? There is no 'delay'. Are you using an SSD or Blade Drive in your iMac?

their has been a delay in the finder when I copy files or move files to the trash. 3-4 seconds at least. but its gone now. I have a regular mechanical hard drive. not an SSD. not sure what a blade drive is or if I have one.

If you are using a mechanical drive it is not a blade drive. Blade drives are essentially, for purposes of this discussion, flash drives/SSDs.

Sorry to hijack your thread. I face a similar dilemma. I've been using El Cap for a couple of years and it has been solid. I'm afraid to upgrade[Don't like change either]I'm running a 2015 rMBP 16gb i7. Am I just being paranoid? Will I experience any performance issues? Thanks

I have a 2015 rMBP with 16GB and it's running Mojave just fine. No major operational changes, just a few tweaks to get it the way I like it. The biggest change, Dark Mode, is totally optional (I have tried it, didn't like it.) And it seems faster than HS was. Given the improvements in security, I would recommend moving up.
