EtreCheck was completed due to continual beachballing; major issue of two (2) unassigned files being possible malware, do I remove them? Thanks.

Would it be too much to supply us the full names of those particular "unassigned files"??? And maybe any other assiciated info.

And didn't EtreCheck have any comments about them?

And welcome to mac-forums.

The unsigned software is okay. Apparently, EtreCheck is misreading legal files that are needed. Mainly, Microsoft Office.

You are using a lot of memory as indicated in the report and that is probably causing "paging" to occur. Paging means that virtual memory is being used as applications are paged in and out when real memory runs short. Likely being caused by running Adobe software alongside Microsoft Office. Both are memory hogs. (Virtual memory uses drive space in lieu of real memory; "paging".)

You also may be running short on drive space. Your SSD is only 256GB and that can fill up quite fast. You need to keep track of that.

And... please start making backups! Time Machine is included with your MacBook Pro and should be used to make backups. Buy an external hard drive and set it up for Time Machine. If you need help with that, just ask. Backups are important and can save your valuable data in case something should go wrong with your MacBook Pro.

May I correct that to say "when something serious does goes wrong"…

It's just a matter of time usually…

I will definitely start with the backups. What would be the best way to free up my drive space? My macbook is basically used for my work documents and of course photos. I have a large mac desktop also, would it beneficial to keep most of the storage on the desktop instead? Thank you for all of the help !

On the desktop Mac is one option. If the photos are important to you, it would be smart to save them in two different places, like Time Machine plus another external drive just for photos and documents.

That's basically just a type of "housekeeping". And basically you know what you want or need to keep and maybe you need to purchase another drive for storage or archives.

You may even need another additional external hard drive for your current backup.

Your Mac OS comes with the included Time Machine that many will recommend and many others, including myself, will recommend using Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC).

Thank you! I would definitely purchase, but I am a little concerned with the reviews of being a scam and the suit filed a few years ago, I believe, on Mackeeper, do you know if that was remedied?

Most knowledgeable users will still definitely suggest NOT installing Mackeeper.
