hi,

I'm running 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro, I have Chrome Version 49.0.2623.112 (64-bit)

I keep being told to upgrade Chrom, which I'd like to do, but what it version I get doesn't work on my OS? could I re-install current version?

and can I find the newest version of Chrome that will work on 10.6.8 before I download & install it?

thank you....

The latest version of Chrome requires OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) or newer. Virtually all recent updates to software have made 10.10 the minimum requirement. If you can, you should be upgrading your machine to the new version of OS X/macOS for many many reasons.

You are already running the latest version of Chrome for Snow Leopard 10.6.8. You can not upgrade Chrome any further. Is there any reason you can't upgrade your version of Snow Leopard to a later version of macOS?

(The latest version of Chrome available is: Version 68.0.3440.15 64-bit)

I can't upgrade OS for a no. of reasons... my computer is quite old (from 2010) it's very slow, and I have a feeling it would get even slower w/a newer OS.. I don't think my Photoshop CS5 or Dreamweaver CS5 or the very old MS Office I have (MS Office 2008, which believe it or not, works quite well, I have no problems w/it..) would work with a newer OS... and I don't have the budget to upgrade any of those programs right now, and I can't do without those three programs... if after upgrading OS I find all these things don't work, not sure how easy/complicated it would be to revert to back 10.6.8 (I do have the disk...) I think it would get quite messy at that point.....

ok.. thank you for your responses....

What you could do is, dual boot your Mac. Partition the drive and run two separate Mac OS X/OS X versions. El Capitan should work well for your Mac, https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206886. After the download is finished, create a bootable USB installer, https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372.

After you have both OS versions installed, your Mac will be safe(r) online using El Capitan, then when you need one of your other programs, boot into Snow Leopard. You could also, test your older apps by installing them in El Capitan, to see if they work or have issues.

Of course, if this is a work machine, then you may want to instal the new OS onto an external drive and run it that way to make sure your work will always get done.
