iBook G4, OS 10.5.4

When I try to open firefox I get a dialog box that says:

Close Firefox

A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the only copy of Firefox that I can find when I run a search. Your suggestions and thoughts on this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Installed TenFourFox...

Installed TenFourFox, when I open it a dialog opens which says:

Profile Missing
Your firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Have abandoned FF just too much trouble the last year or two.

You may like to consider TenFourFox, designed for PowerPC Macs running Tiger and Leopard.

Have a look in Force Quit to see if Firefox is still running: Apple logo up top > Force Quit.

Firefox may have a background process running or hung. Try restarting your computer. And make sure you have the latest version.

It is not listed in the choices to "Force Quit...". I ve Restarted many times, just did again in hopes that the problem would be resolved. No luck. Question...when you drag an app to trash to uninstall it, are there files, that are hidden, remaining somewhere on the hard drive or are all files removed when you empty trash? just a thought...

GOT IT RESOLVED!!!!

WOW!!!

A FireFox browser still works for browsing when used with a iBook G4, running OS 10.5.4 ????

I guess a lot depends on the sites being visited and used.

Anyway, well done and congratulations on your fix.

One of your questions about dragging apps to the trash and does that remove them completely I think went unanswered. The answer I think you have already worked out, no, only the app itself is removed leaving other files like preferences and in your case profiles behind. These useless files can cluttler up your system or cause problems should you try to re install the same app at a later date as you discovered.
An easy solution is a system utility called App Trap. It does only one thing. If you drag an application to the Trash it gives you the option to remove all associated files.
I found this very useful over the years and I think it will work on your device and operating system. You can get the version for OSX 10.5 here; http://onnati.net/apptrap/
