Several days ago, I changed my email address and password for my Apple I.D. No problems with my iPad or iPhone. In fact I've ordered music and a movie on both with no problems. However, I keep getting an annoying pop-up on my iMac telling me there's a problem with my email address. It lists my old email in the message. It says to open "iCloud Preferences" to fix the problem. I click the little iCloud preferences button and nothing happens. It just sit there, spinning it's little wheel icon forever. I waited about 30 minutes for it to open to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Where is this "iCloud preferences button" you are referring to? Is it the iCloud icon in System Preferences? If so, have you restarted your Mac?

It is in the pop-up message. I'll try to attached a screen print, minus my email address.
I have shut down my computer several times since this started happening. Even restarted it holding down the shift key once.

Any transactions with Apple ID are the pits.

Suggest contacting Apple Cafre in which ever country you are in.

@billinden

Quit every single app and Window on your Mac and also exclude all your current login items (System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items). Shut down the Mac unchecking the box (if it shows) open all previous windows/apps.

After rebooting the Mac either in the normal way or, as you have done before, in Safe Mode.

First thing, System Preferences > iCloud and Sign Out.

Then Reboot again (sorry), then System Preferences > iCloud Sign In. NB your new email address and new Password.

I don't want to waste your time, but I'm trying to make it possible to log out of iCloud and then log in again after a reboot.

If that fails, it's a phone call to Apple.....
