I recently updated to High Sierra and everything seems to work except for Messages. I have the exact same settings as for Sierra, but if I send a message to anyone it does not send and I eventually get an error message that says it was undelivered.

I tried restarting in Safe Mode and it worked just fine, which would seem to prove that my settings are all OK.

ANy ideas?

2010 Mac Pro 64Gb RAM 12 cores, at 3.46 GHz
System installed on HFS+ Fusion Drive

P.S. If this issue has already been discussed, I apologize for the post, and can someone please point me to the relevant discussion... thanks.

If it worked in Safe Mode that would seem to indicate that there might be a problem with your account when you're logged on in normal mode. One thing you can try is to sign out of iCloud and then back in to see if messages are working. Also, you don't indicate if messages are working OK on an iOS device - that is if you have one?

I have not only signed out of iCloud, but deleted the iCloud account from the Mac and re-entered it to no avail.

I do not have an iOS device

Have you installed the recent patch that Apple issued for High Sierra? If I remember correctly there were some folks in another forum who stated that the patch fixed some problems they were having. I believe messages was included. Let us know.

Yes I did, and it did solve another problem I was having, namely being able to download updates in Software Update. Regretfully, it didn't do anything for this problem.

I've seen some threads in other forums about messages and the problems folks were having with them. I'll look around and get back to you in this thread if I find anything useful for you to try.

Thanks.

I just tried logging in as a different (new) user and logging in to my iCloud account and opened Messages in that account to see if it could work then, and for some reason it wouldn't allow me to log in. Maybe it was because I was already logged in with in my regular account although I had logged out from that... so a blank on that one.

When you say you were still logged into your account do you mean that you were still logged into the iCloud account. If I am not mistaken it is possible to be logged into the iCloud account even if you are logged out of the user account on your Mac.
