The "running out of memory" message is from your ram 2GB is low. What version of OS X is your MBP running?

If you open up Activity Monitor, how much free memory does it say that you have (go to the Memory tab and compare the "Physical Memory" and "Memory Used" numbers)?

1. Uninstall CleanMyMac and any antivirus software.

2. Realise the capacity of your Air is very limited. The SSD is approaching the 99% full mark and most manufacturers of SSDs advice sticking to the old 10% free rule for anywhere near adequate performance. Also 2GB is insufficiant IMHO for macOS Sierra.

Remember:

- "Memory" = RAM
- "Memory" ≠ Storage Space

As member ferrarr mentioned above. The warning is very likely due to only having 2gig of RAM. 2gig of RAM and OS 10.12 (Sierra)...is a very very minimum setup.

Try rebooting the computer. And maybe limit how many apps you have open at once.:)

Your MacBook Air is not going to run any better if you downgrade to El Capitan. I guess if you went all the way back to Snow Leopard it would run better but that's a drastic downgrade. The small SSD and 2 GB of system memory is just too limiting for the current version of OS X and newer applications. You might want to think about buying a newer Mac.
