Recently replaced my ram on my macbook due to 'three bleeps' when trying to boot, ever since then I got a 'unknown error 13014' when trying to load iTunes, everything then became really slow. I decided to wipe it and start again doing a complete reinstall of the latest mac os. Upon firing up the macbook, I found that I could use the finder (this still happens), I would get the unknown error message for the rest of the apps and then after using it for a for apps few minutes when trying to click on any of the apps I get a message saying application can't be launched. After this process I either get the rolling loading ball or a black screen.

Sorry if this post isn't written in the right format, it's my first post, and I am starting to become worried as I need it for university and I can't afford a new one.

Thanks in advance, Matt

The issue could be, you can't just install any ram in your MacBook, Mac need specific ram. Where did you get the ram from? Also, stating "doing a complete reinstall of the latest Mac OS", does not tell us which Mac OS X version we are dealing with.

Please post what MacBook model year and OS X version are being used?

Wecome to these Forums Matt, it would seem from Googling the "unknown error 13014" (which is always a good idea when you get an error) that it may be related to a shortage of storage and most commonly occurs in relation to iTunes. This is a bit ambiguous though as there are a fairly broad range of issues that can cause this error to occur. But as I usually suspect the most recent change to be in some way related to the new problem I would suggest that it may be the RAM you installed that is causing or contributing to the problem.
What device do you have (year and model) what operating system are you running and most importantly what RAM chips did you install?
Are you running Genius in iTunes and how much storage do you have spare (empty) ? Check by double clicking your Macintosh HD icon on the desktop and select Get Info or check About This Mac under the Apple menu select Storage.
If you have less than 20% of the total storage free then that may be a part of your problem.
Get back with some more info and we will give you more info.;)

The model number is A1278, I believe it's a 2012 model, it has 657 gb free memory, running macos Sierra 10.12.1. The ram is elpida 4gb. 2Rx8, I didn't actually replace the Ram as I didn't trust myself so my friend who works with Pc's did it, he said he checked it in another mac before putting it in mine.
Thanks for the quick replies I really appreciate it!

This Link may answer your problem (or not, of course).

It seems that although elpida is a large & well recognised company, its RAM is not that well tolerated by Macs, especially MacBooks - or so say several respondents. As you would expect, Crucial and OWC are recommended, and must be accurately matched to your specific model.

Thanks for the quick replies again, just about to order some off the crucial website, I am not sure if I have rk start a new thread but I have now seen how cheap you can purchase SSD's for and was wondering if I could go from a HDD to an SSD with ease?
Sorry for the simple questions
TIA Matt

My wife did the same, swapped out her HDD for SSD and it certainly made her 2011 MBP a lot snappier. We made the whole process easy by creating a bootable clone with Carbon Copy Cloner and simply cloning the copy back to the SSD.
