iMac 2007 -- carbonite keeps trying to install on startup, but software is gone

I have a 2007 iMac with a core 2 Duo. The customer has deleted carbonite, but the icon is still in the menu bar, and on startup it tries to install from the carbonite site, I keep keep getting an error message saying that the installation has failed. Not familiar with this too much. Any suggestions? I can't even get rid of the carbonite icon in the menu bar.

Tell us what version of Mac OS X is this 2007 iMac running? 10.?.?

Usually, if you hold "command" down, you can click on the icon and drag it off the menubar, give it a shot. If you go into System Preferences, is Carbonite listed there? Or may System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items, Carbonite might be listed, if so, remove (-) it.

Just to be sure. When you say "Menu Bar" are you talking the bar at the top of the display...or are you talking about the "Dock"?

Also. Since it was not mentioned. One of the first things that should be done when having a problem with an app...is visit the developers website. The Carbonite website does offer some info on how to uninstall Carbonite:
