Purely bu accident I came across this article which although I cannot evaluate myself may be of interest to members who can. For anyone else reading this post be aware that this is a complicated process (not for beginners) and a full backup should be made before attempting this process.
Having said that it appears to be genuine and i would love to know if it works.

Thanks for that Rod. It's not as complex a process as I thought it would be though it's probably not for Mac novices. In any case a full backup is a must.

I need to re-read the directions but I think this tool will let me install Sierra on my 2008 MacBook Pro. Looks like I just found my weekend project.

I'm glad you think "It's not as complex a process as I thought", LOL. Are you sure you're reading the right instructions? I'm betting your weekend project may extend into Monday. :p

I glanced at them but plan to read them in depth before starting. This of course violates my usual rule of "jump into the deep end of the pool and don't start flailing your arms until the water nears chin level".

It probably will take some time since it occurs to me that strictly as a point of interest it would be a good idea to run a few speed tests. My MacBook Pro runs El Capitan but moving it to Sierra isn't worth doing if it bogs the system down significantly. I can't think of any Sierra-only features that are enough of a must have to justify keeping it if there is much of a slowdown in performance.

That was the one to which I referred in another thread.

It did allow me to download the Installer on a Mac that is not supported but I have not actually tried the installation process.

Nighthawk4, I knew I had heard of this somewhere on this forum but could not recall where. I was actually looking for info on the macOS Sierra update when I came across it. I guess we'll just wait an see how slydude goes with the process.

I might also try it for the fun of it on my 2008 iMac 20". Will report back if I do.

Maybe you Admins might want to get ready and setup a new "Patcher Tool for Unsupported Macs Stuff" section???

And maybe the doers might want to get in a stock of some nice Southern Bourbon to keep their nerves calm and make the experience seem more enjoyable.

PS: Lowend Macs has some interesting facts and info for those interested:

Well, if anyone can get the patch to work, our moderator Dennis can. He probably has more experience working on Macs than the rest of us.

Let us know how it goes Dennis. :)
