Hello,
I am unable to delete data left by three websites:
goodmad.com
moneymart.ca
yahoo.com
I can delete everything except for these three.
This is what I do:
Safari - Preferences - Privacy - Manage Website Data - Remove All - Done

How do I delete these website databases and why are they are difficult to delete. I guess they are put on my machine not to be deleted and that is bothersome.

My machine is:
OS X El Capitan
Version 10.11.6
i mac 27in. Late 2013
Processor 3.2 GHZ Intelcore i5
Mem 8 Gb 1600 MHz DDR3

Thanks in advance,

Reiner

Hi,
Thank-you for your help. I have tried clearing cookies and cache many times as the uk post suggests but to no avail. It does not delete the three mentioned website databases. They keep coming back as soon as they are deleted.

Try using the free maintenance app called Onyx. Just click on the "automation" button...once installed & launched.

See if that helps,

You should also check for your extensions under Preferences and make sure you don't have something there that is recreating the dbs.

Thanks everyone. I've tried all of the suggestions except for the Onyx app. None are working and now I've collected some more annoying website data.

Try using Ghostery. It blocks a lot of adware and other stuff. But be aware that pretty much everything in the Internet uses cookies, so as soon as you clean them out, they will reappear.

Thanks again,
It seems to me from the suggestions I have been getting, deleting these website databases is impossible. All website databases delete with out any problems on my machine except for the above mentioned ones. Why do these websites not permit one to delete their data? There must be a way!

When you delete, do you have "Always block" checked? Or what?
If not They'll keep coming back.

Quit Safari, and hold "shift" down before you open Safari. Let us know if it works.

Thanks again for your input. I've tried all of the above suggestions and none of them work. I can delete all website databases except for the ones mentioned above. They will not allow me to delete them.

Thank you for the links on how to delete Flash cookies. I've learned something new and that was very informative. I followed the instructions but these pesky web site databases mentioned above keep returning. So annoying!

Reiner, I have a couple of suggestions. If those files are that annoying, the one sure way to never have them appear is not to go into the Internet. I don't mean that to sound sarcastic, but life in the Internet means that there will be things tracking you as you go. If you succeed in blocking all of them, all of the time, then most, if not all, of the websites won't work. It's just how things are in cyberspace.

The second suggestion is related: If you DO decide to continue in the Internet, then don't fret over those databases. Use Ghostery to block what you can, use malwarebytes to eliminate the nasty stuff that might get through, use Onyx to occasionally clean up your system and don't fret over things you cannot change. Life is too short to let things you cannot control annoy you.

Removing website data

Hi Reiner,
I just figured this out after much frustration. I hope this works for you.

Go to Finder
Click on Go at the top menu
Press Options on keyboard and Library will show up under Go
Click on Library
Go to Safari folder
Then Databases folder
Then _IndexDB folder
What ever is listed in that folder, highlight, right click and move to trash.
It worked!
I discovered this after a lot of searching.
Good luck.

Thank you MTgirl!!! You are brilliant! Your instructions worked and I thank you for taking the time to figure it out. Much appreciated. I knew there had to be a way. I couldn't believe some of the advise I was getting, like stay off the internet if you don't like these databases.

I'm glad it worked. I was annoyed at some of the responses as well. I knew there had to be a way.

Was having the same problem. THANK YOU MTgirl for posting this. I spent almost 2 days on the phone with Apple to the point where they told me that there is nothing more to do until a new update with a fix comes up.
