I have photos from various versions of iPhoto,Picasa, and Kodak EasyShare scattered over my main drive and 4 external drives. When I went to gather everything into one place I just got trouble. It seems my Mac (OS Mavericks) cannot handle large gobs of pictures. It can transfer small batches but I have tried Lightroom,Picasa,ACDSee, and a couple of others and they all start and then choke. Finally I used the Finder to search for all jpgs and then I could only drag small batches. it would take a lot of time to move everything that way.
I was thinking something like rsync could scour all my hard drives and do it but I believe that will only transfer one whole folder not many files in many different places? I’m not good at terminal commands.
Any help out there?

Your best bet is to just be patient and continue dragging and dropping (copying) whatever photos you have into the one place you chose. Getting "cute" with terminal or rsync could very easily result in a disaster such as an unrecoverable loss of some of your photos. Also, make sure you have backups of everything. Our forums have seen many horror stories from members about the losses of their valuable photos. What you're doing is going to take time it's better than taking a chance and losing your photos.

And welcome to our forums.
