I just got a message that my i Cloud memory is filling up and I should increase my memory there at a monthly cost. I do not use the cloud, don't have a password, constantly cancel the request for that password. I am guessing that there must be some automatic load to the cloud, but I don't want it, don't use it, etc. If I just ignore it will there be some ongoing irritation?
Ideas, anybody? Thanks in advance, Tom.

- Who is this message coming from?
- And how are you receiving this message (email, popup, browser webpage, etc.).
- Are you the only person who could possibly have access to an iCould account in your household?

If you say email (and it came from Apple)…double check the sender's email address…since this could be spam. If you're not using iCloud…then it certainly shouldn't be filling up.

Do you own iPhones or iPads in your family? Everytime the automatic backup of data activates, it goes to your iCloud account (which all users have). If this is occurring and the message is actually coming from Apple (see Nick's reply above) just ignore it. If the automatic backups are occurring, go into "settings" on your iPhone or iPad and turn it off. You can always backup your iDevices to your Mac instead.

tomreteng, when you say you do not have a password, are you saying you do not have an Apple ID? Because if you use iChat, iMessage, iTunes, iCal, the App Store, Find My Mac/iPhone or any other optional services like iCloud Keychain or Photo Stream or have an iCloud email account you must have an Apple ID and Password?
It is almost impossible these days to own/operate an iDevice or Apple computer without an Apple ID, it would be like a car without an engine.

That's it! I do feel for these people though. There have been other posts recently from OP's who do not wish to opt in to all of the "Cloud in the sky" storage and streaming and ID registration stuff that so many of us take for granted these days.
I admit to being one of those who always wanted to keep my data "in house" myself and to that end I still only use a few iCloud services but whether you are a Windows user or a Mac user or even a Linux user it is impossible to have any online presence without identification and registration of some sort.
I certainly don't blame people for being a bit paranoid in these days of identity theft, spyware, spam, malware, etc but I'm not about to start wearing a tinfoil hat just yet.
When it comes to technology you don't need to embrace it all, just take what you need and stay informed.
Knowledge is power but a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
Disclaimer: I apologize if none of this applies to you tomreteng, I'll get off my soapbox now.

I do not use the Cloud or any other highfalutin' nonsense.

Well Rod it is election time so we will forgive you the soap box oration!

Hey Rod; Harry knows exactly where is iMac is: on yonder desk. And the iPhone, right next to it. Correct Harry?:) :Lips-Are-Sealed:

Hi Nick,
Thanks. I'm getting this from (iCloud<[email protected]>), receiving by email, and as chscag asks, below, my wife does have an iPad. I'll check those settings.

Thanks for the idea.

Hi Rod,
I do, of course, have an Apple ID. It is just that I never dreamed that after I was signed in to my account already, the iCloud portion of Apple would ask for my "iCloud ID over and over again, each time I opened my Browser.
Thanks for the idea.

Still don't know how I'm building up storage in iCloud.

Thanks to everyone who commented on this thread. I'm still in the dark as to how I (we) might be filling up iCloud memory and I'm not happy to email sender of the original warning email, as it does not seem to be from Apple. The amount of memory shown in the iPad is the same as the original warning message, but with the iCloud Drive turned off and my practice of cancelling each request to open iCloud on both the laptop and iMac, I don't know how it gets in there.
Thanks, Tom

How about just checking out your account and see if it really is "filling up"…??? Just to make sure if nothing else…

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the idea. I went to my account (which I did not knowingly ask for) and deleted many of the items which they have saved in the cloud.
When I go back to the account, nothing has changed! I'll just wait to see if anything happens over time.

As mentioned earlier and something to consider to set your mind at ease more, the notice you got could well have been some sort of phishing SCAM and just delete it and carry on.

At least you know how to check and keep a watch on your Apple iCloud things.

Hello Tom

It it's not from Apple, then it's possibly some scammer hoping that you'll give them your password?
If you're not using the Cloud, it's not likely to be filling up?
I'd forward it to Apple and see what they think: http://www.apple.com/legal/more-resources/phishing/

Good luck, CB
