locked keychain

my imac is locked out by the keychain asking for lost password and am unable to open it 2.9 gb imac 24" running El capitan

Are you referring to a user password or the firmware password or some other type of password ?
What are you not able to open ? An application.
Are you stuck at logon ?

A bit more detail please .

HI when i startup and log on with my password i open ok but the keychain comes over the screen askingf or my password for things and i have no idea what password i put n so i keep going around through about 5 screens of the key chain with on lucl i have tried loading the system again with no luck can log on as visiter but any thing i do is not saved thelp thanks

Trust you have not encrypted the drive using FileVault. Is it showing by chance a locked padlock icon?
