Hey guys. How are you finding El Capitan? I still haven't made the move and would like to get your thoughts to make sure it's not more hassle than its worth at the moment. I only updated to iOS 9 the other week and have found problems - it seems very slow (pull down menus are stuttery, etc). Hasn't given me the greatest confidence to update my Mac.

Apologies if there is already a relevant (recent) thread regarding this topic. If so please point me in the right direction

All I can tell you is that I have had no problems whatsoever updating three iOS devices to iOS 9 (9.2.1 is the latest) and my iMac to El Capitan. Both have been out for quite some time and most glitches that users experienced have been taken care of by Apple updates. El Capitan is now at 10.11.3.

@ JoshJ - I could have posted virtually the identical one above by Chscag - as to the iPad, which model do you own, e.g. some have had issues w/ the older iPad 2? Dave :)

I was a beta tester and have had zero issues, if you couple that to a more secure and robust OS why not?

Only problem is that I can no longer drag pictures from Photos straight into Photoshop Elements, though can drag to desktop and from there into the app. Not huge issue as I don't PS every pic.

Comparing iOS to OS X upgrading are two different animals. The age of the device when updating iOS versions will make a difference. Older devices can struggle especially ones with limiting internal storage that is already full.

Updating to El Capitan on a device 2007/2008 and newer is more connected to amount of memory and available storage on the hard drive. Most issues I have seen revolve around people with older computers having less than 4GB of memory and a stuffed or older failing hard drive. Take that older machine and add memory to take it to 4GB or more then for an even better experience, replace the hard drive with an SSD and El Capitan will perform very well.

Since you have a newer beefy MBP - I assume that is the one you are upgrading - back it up using Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper then upgrade. If you don't like it, you can roll it back.

As for IOS, I upgraded my wife's 5 to the latest and it's running great. I'd suggest backing up the iPhone and resetting to factory then restore the backup.

My husband's 5c with 8GB is running iOS 9.2.1 with no issues. I will qualify that by saying he does nothing with it but make calls and store his contacts. He doesn't even text or take pictures with it. Yes, I am married to a very non-techie man. But he has other qualities so I'll keep him. :*

Lisa - Luddites are still well respected in my home - I do the same w/ my wife - in retirement, I'm the local IT guy, so even updating Flash on her iMac is my job - but all is well! :) Dave
