Do we pay for the El Capitan upgrade?

I did not notice anything about having to pay for the El Capitan upgrade. but as always even with the free apple APP.s was asked for credit card info. but this morning i notice iTunes shows up as a charge pending in my credit card info.
So do we pay for El Capitan?:Not-Amused:
