late 2009 Imac

My 2009 Imac acts as if it is going to start up but it stays on the white screen with the apple logo...I have tried to start it up holding the option key down and that dont work i just tried safe mode and the same thing happened nothing... please help someone???

What version of OS X are you running? If Lion or later, you can try booting to Recovery by holding down your command and r keys and rebooting. Once in Recovery, select Utilities, Disk Utility, and verify your hard drive.

If you can't boot to recovery and no other way, then it's a good bet the hard drive has failed. Probably time to either repair it yourself (if you're able) or take it to Apple. Instructions for removing and replacing the hard drive can be found at iFixit: The Free Repair Manual. Not an easy job.
