Yes, you can use your remote but you will need to get a USB accessory before the remote will work as there is no infrared receiver built into your new iMac. The accessory you will need is called "mira" sold by twistedmelon.com. It's a USB remote receiver which you can plug into your iMac and will connect with your Apple remote. It works with iTunes, Keynote, Powerpoint, and many other apps. I have and use one with my iMac.

It should be mentioned -- though may not be relevant to mav's desires -- that iTunes, Keyote and other apps can generally be controlled using an iPhone or iPod Touch (relying on Wi-Fi rather than infrared). The advantage, of course, is that line-of-site and limited range are essentially eliminated.

The disadvantage of using the iPod or iPhone is that you have to watch the device. Using the Apple Remote can de done in the hand just feeling the keys.
