Well Guys - tonight, I just upgraded my MBPro from Mavericks to Yosemite 10.10.1 - took a while (prepared w/ setting up a boot USB flash drive + Time Machine (TM) & 2 CCC cloned drives, so was ready for a disaster) - seems to have gone well - have not tested all, but so far seems fine. Will work w/ this a while and then decide to do my wife's iMac!

JUST a question, my TM backup & the two CCC cloned drives are pre-Yosemite, i.e. the OS X on those backups is Mavericks - does one simply attach the same TM & cloned drives and will the software take care of updating to the more recent OS? Thanks - Dave :)

Well, I've been just trying out my updated Yosemite and disliked the 'transparency' feature of colors shining through from the background windows - SO, went into 'Accessibility' in System Preferences and turned off the feature - but my Dock's background color change from a nice dark blue (of course related to my screen display) to a dull gray (see attached image) - is there any way to change this independently? Thanks all - Dave :.

I noticed Time Capsule has taken a performance hit after 10.10.1 it still works without fail but seems to take longer in both preparing and cleaning up.

Well, pertinent to my post about running TM (and CCC) after this OS upgrade - would not the first one be expected to take up more time? Not sure - Dave :)

As to your post Dave, TM only backs up Files and Folders from your System, not the OS, so it will just do another Backup, as if nothing has changed.
As to CCC, I use Super Duper, and when I updated to Yosemite, I used my normal backup strategy, with making it a Bootable Backup, the last thing on the list, and now my 3TB Lacie, is a Yosemite Bootable Backup. I would highly presume, CCC is the same . . .

Im going to try and do a Update remotely now on my iMac Server 4.0 :)

Airport Utility takes longer now to populate on my MBP than it did before but works great on iPad and iPhone with the latest iOS.

I am late to the party. Downloading it now on my iMac. Will report back. Here is a list of what they fixed:

This is incorrect. Time Machine backs up the entire drive, system included, by default (you can set it to do only the user folder, but that's not the default). That the result isn't bootable doesn't mean that not everything is backed up -- indeed, every file is in fact backed up.

Just after I updated to Yosemite on 18 Oct I noticed that Safari was quitting after about 30 minutes of non use and posted an item here which was never resolved. The update to 10:10:1 appears to have fixed that problem :)

Just before the update was issued I was notified of an update to Microsoft Office - coincidence?

Re-setting the SMC seems to have fixed my Airport Utility problem not sure why but it did so far.

Regarding CCC and Yosemite, and I'm not sure how critical it is, but my understanding is any CCC v. 3.5.x user should update to CCC 4.0 if running Yosemite.

Unfortunately a paid upgrade but I'm told it works better and faster, and there is a reduced upgrade price if one qualifies.

No need for anything new in Yosemite for me thanks. Besides, my Mavericks is working well. ;) :D

It has an entirely new interface and much easier to use than the older version. Upgrading from version 3.X to 4.X is $19.95. Well worth the cost in my opinion.

Yosemite v Mavericks.

I installed 10.10.1 on one of my CCC cloned external HD's and still not impressed, so will continue to run Mavericks 10.9.5. My version of CCC is 3.5.7 and I paid for it.

Frankly, as a Mac user since 1992 on System 7, I think Apple releases major upgrades far too often. I just get used to Mavericks then Yosemite is released. It affects some of my apps, but I don't really see it to be any better than Mavericks. So for now, my wife's 13" MacBook Pro and my 15" MacBook Pro will continue to run on 10.9.5 for now. We have a new mini iPad running on iOS 8. I think Apple are trying to make Yosemite look the same.:\

I have an ancient 20" iMac with a PowerPC processor and it still runs very well on 10.4.11 and AppleWorks is still a good word processor etc.

My first Mac was an LC III with just 2 MB of RAM, and 160 MB hard drive.

How times have changed.

I agree Jima1, and I beat you by a few years with our first Mac, the first LC that actually came with a color monitor, 2GB RAM (I actually added another 2GB for a whopping 4GB RAM) and it's 40GB hard drive and used System 7 that had just been released about 1990.

And I'm lucky that my mid-late 2011 27" iMac can still run SL 10.6.8 that I still use and AppleWorks still runs very well thank you Apple. I even had to use it a few months ago to create a small "diploma" that neither version of the latest Pages could do!!

BTW: All PPC 20" iMacs can run 10.5.8 AFAIK which had several good useful improvements over 10.4.11.
See details at: Apple iMac Specs (All iMac Tech Specs) @ EveryMac.com

And the same for our iPad 2 and 3 models, both are staying with iOS 7.1.2 thanks anyway Apple. "New and Improved" isn't always for the better for a lot of us users.

I wonder if there are any typo's in the above statement? ;P

Spoke to soon Airport Utility takes way to long to recognize the Time Capsule and Express after 10.10.1.

Well, this is also happening to me after going to Yosemite last night - when I open row AirPort Utility, the green internet signal shows up but not my AirPort Extreme (use to be just the opposite on Mavericks) - this time I got the dialog box shown below - not sure what the issue may be? If powered down the router w/o effect - maybe there will be firmware upgrade? Any suggestions? Dave :)
.

Addendum: the message posted - what's the issue here?

@Dave: Did you try resetting the AE?

Hi Chscag - well, I've 'power cycled' the router several times (of course, not a reset) - BUT, I just went to my wife's iMac and ran the utility (she is still on Mavericks) and got the usual behavior, i.e. the router light turned green first and then the internet turned green which is the sequence I'm use to seeing. Dave :)

P.S. my messages are being sent and I'm now streaming the Borgias via my Roku in the den, so the router is working - confused! :(

Both my iPad and iPhone access Airport Utility normally but my MBP with 10.10.1 definitely has an issue with the utility Apple needs to address this.
