Yosemite and a printer driver that broke

Printing junk on many pages is symptom of using a postscript driver for a non-postscript printer. What printer?
I've seen that, too. I don't know if HP uses PS, but even so, normally when PS goes south, it's because of a header being stripped/shortened/mangled on the print job. I'm suspecting that the NAS is doing the same thing to the HP stream.

Hi.

The problem is not the NAS: I have another mac running 10.8.6 that perfectly prints over the NAS to the same printer. (I checked what driver it uses: HP 4.0.4 driver. )

What I tried today: copied the driver file from the mac running OSX10.8.6 (/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/HP Deskjet 5900 series.ppd.gz ) to the exact same location on the Yosemite machine.
The Yosemite machine now uses that driver for the printer with no improvement over the situation described in my previous reply: direct USB : working / through NAS via Bonjour: jibberish.

This makes me suspect something is different in the implementation of network printing in 10.8.6 vs 10.10 ...

I don't have a choice between printer drivers (or i'm looking in the wrong place/ in the wrong way) can you point out where to look for this indication?

As far as I know, I've used the HPIJS driver and now tried the PPD driver. Perhaps the use of the HPIJS + foomatic-rip + ghostscript make it a problem to print over network? any clues? I'm curious!

I just can't seem to find a solution to the problem I have printing through Bonjour. Serious bummer.
