Emptying Trash

I run OSX 10.6.8 and all of sudden my trash won't empty. Error code 8003. Pretty generic. I've repaired permissions, still won't empty. Any ideas? Thanks

Have you tried restarting the computer?

Or starting up in Safe Mode and emptying the trash from there?

I've restarted many times and it still wont' empty. I can try safe mode, but not sure how to start up that way.

When you start the machine, press and hold the shift key until you see the apple - it can take a couple of minutes to get to the desktop.

If Bobtomay's excellent ideas don't succeed, you could try downloading the free app OnyX from here: Titanium's Software • Index page.

Be certain to download the version of OnyX specific to your OS (in your case 10.6). Open the app in the usual way, enter your admin PW when requested, check the SMART status of your Int HD if you wish; then choose Automation from the Menu. You can run all the checks in the list (not a bad idea if this is your first time), but the one you want in particular is the last one "Delete Trash" which force-deletes the Trash. This has never failed to work in my experience.
