Word 2011– Problem with page numbers

I have a Word document, but I cannot insert the page numbers as I want. Starting from the second page of the document, I have to insert Roman numerals at the top right-hand corner of the page. I know how to do this, but whenever I try I have the Roman numeral on the first page, and Arabic numerals on the other pages. Or sometimes it inserts the right type of numeral but it starts from the third page.
How can I solve this problem?
