running 10.6.8 on MBpro - 2.66 intel core 2 duo - 4gb ram -

I would like to keep this setup for work

I would like to play more recent 'total war' packs needing 10.7.4 etc...

via... 10.7.4 on a partition? - (ie totally seperate from work)

or... pc software by running a boot set-up - if this is simplest/best then any recommendations

thanks

If you're wanting to play Windows type games, then using Boot Camp with a separate partition is probably best. You could create space on you MBP for Mountain Lion (Lion is no longer available), however, you need to consider that Mountain Lion will also require a recovery partition. More complex.

Why not just upgrade your Snow Leopard system to Mountain Lion or do you absolutely need Snow Leopard, maybe to run older PPC software?

There are no drawbacks to running Windows using a Boot Camp dual boot. The only inconvenience is having to reboot the machine each time to get into Windows and then back to OS X.

If you plan on using Boot Camp, beef up your MBP by adding more memory. Probably a good idea is to add 4 GB for a total of 8 GB. And do not run a 32 bit version of Windows as its limited to utilizing only 3.3 GB of memory. Use a 64 bit version of Windows, preferably Windows 7.
