I have a new iMac (OS 10.8.2) which, when I open applications for the first time in a session, gives an Apple error message, "You are opening the application, ****, for the first time .....". It doesn't always do it but there are some apps for which it does it every time. I have to click OK to open the file.

How do I get rid of the message?

One of the most annoying aspects of this OSX message is that there are several apps I can't open at boot-up - they all fail at the error message.

G'dy and welcome to the forums.

Sounds like Gatekeeper is keeping things out. Go into System Preferences > Security and Privacy and click on the local. You will be asked got your password, and then select Anywhere. After downloading and opening the file and running it, go back and lock it up again selecting Mac App Store. You will be asked for your password gain and the lock will close.

What does "click on the local" mean? In System Preferences > Security and Privacy, I have 4 tabs, General, File Vault, Firewall and Privacy.

In General, I have Gatekeeper set to allow apps downloaded from anywhere so I don't see that it can be Gatekeeper doing it.

True but I didn't even know what Gatekeeper was until you mentioned it and I looked it up.

Any other possibilities to explore?

Well I don't think you can get rid of that message. Just Apple making sure you have downloaded what you thought you did.

All apps have been installed correctly. The problem now seems to have gone away - possibly because I reset Gatekeeper to open all apps - it was set that way before, I just unchecked and re-checked the box.
