Lion Right-Click Select (How to DISABLE selecting whole word)

Just got a shiny new Macbook (which I love) but I really dislike the Lion trackpad configuration. (Can Lion revert all the trackpad config to an older version? I wish.)

In my old Macbook I could right click anywhere within a word and the cursor would stay there and the pop up would let me paste. In Lion when I right-click on a word it automatically selects the entire word.

HOW DO I DISABLE THIS AUTOMATIC SELECTION OF THE ENTIRE WORD WHEN I RIGHT-CLICK?

Thank you folks!

If it helps, it isn't a trackpad problem. It also occurs with the mouse.

Right-clicking on a word selects the whole word rather than places the cursor between letters. As a writer this is debilitating.

How do I change the right-click to NOT SELECT THE ENTIRE WORD?

Any help is appreciated.

Don't have a clue how to turn it off. I've never wanted to paste anything in the middle of a word either though - as far as I can remember.

Did figure out a couple of work arounds if you haven't discovered them and would like to use them in the meanwhile - the easiest one:

Insert the cursor - double tap the space bar - right click in the space - it will highlight the space and allow you to paste.

The other one is much harder, so won't even bother.

Did anyone find a solution?

Hi,

I, too, have this problem. But I have been a long-time Mac user and I don't recall this problem bugging me before.

It's possible I have never noticed this before, but right now I am using an application where a right-click brings up a context menu with actions that will paste (and thus paste over and delete the unwanted selection) something into the app.

I've googled as much as I can, but can't seem to find anything other than this one single post. Makes me think Google search is not as sharp as it once was… because it's hard to believe you are the only person in the world who has posted on this problem!!!

Thanks in advance if anyone does know!

Nic.

I'm bumping this because until today my Macbook Pro never did this highlight when right clicking thing. I verified it with a few other people that say their's don't do this so all the "its normal" answers can't be right. How do I make it stop? Sorry if I managed to miss a newer thread on this.

it's 2017 and still no fix for this?
What is the issue that needs to be fixed? What is the Mac model and year you are using? What is the Mac OS X/Mac OS/macOS version you are using? What are the steps you have tried?

The more information you can provide, will help get to the solution faster.

This still happens on any newer OSX. It doesn't bug me in the originally described use case from shanko.

This is especially annoying, when you right click on a link to "send the link to JDownloader".

Instead it selects the whole link text and the selection gets sent to JD instead of the actual link address.

The addon I'm referring to is called MyJdownloader and it's available for Google Chrome on any Platform.

Is there any OS hack that disables the automatic text selection on right click?

I appreciate any inputs.
