My OS X 10.5.8 can' t handle .exe

I have never been able to handle files ending in ".exe"
I get a message <<This program cannot be run in DOS mode.>>
I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8, Intel core, serial QP918022ZE2
I thought it was because I have a Mac, but a friend has a Mac, and seems to have no trouble. What is my problem??

And, can I do anything about it?

An exe is a Windows executable file. Basically, you need Windows installed on your Mac to run those files.

or, you can install a program like crossover, which uses WINE technology, although this might not work, and requires a little bit of technical know how sometimes.

Installing windows would be faaaaar easier.

It may also be feasible to find an alternative for the Mac. What software are you trying to run?
