i have a black macbook, snow leopard 10.6.6, and a lexmark z25 printer.

i used to have the printer connected directly to my mac via usb. now i have it connected to a windows xp desktop. i have the xp machine set up as my media and print server and want to share the printer to my mac so i can print over the network. i can see the printer when i try to install it over the network, however, i can load the drivers. i have them loaded from whenever it was connected directly to the mac, but when i try to install the network printer i can't find the drivers. i get a drop down of available printers but the z25 isn't listed. when i do a spotlight search all i find is the installer, not the driver.

any input??

Got to say Eric dealing with Lexmark is the most frustrating experience of all time. This link states the Z25 is not compatible with Snow Leopard. Had huge problems when had an X75 with Lexmark's IT folk insisting drivers were available for OS X.4 and X.5 when all that was available was the original OS X.2 drivers which had not been updated since 2001, just the Mac compatible specs had changed without any new drivers or testing.

I think you mean you had it working via USB direct connection on 10.5?

Print drivers on OS X aren't as simple as on Window$. Most drivers on OS X for USB-only printers are USB-only drivers (the manufacturer has chosen to only support USB). The lexmark driver for the Z25, even if it works via USB, won't work via Windows Printing or IP printing.

The model choices you see are all Gutenprint open-source CUPS drivers. There isn't an open-source CUPS driver available for the Z25.
