Hi there -

Basically in Jan I bought a new 21inch iMac - 2 moths later I was burgled, they took the mac but I still have the OS & Application install DVD's. I have just settled my insurance claim and am about to buy another computer, my question is - can I sell these DVD's on ebay or the likes?

Many thanks!

I'm not sure of the legalities with the EULA, but in my opinion, it's like parting the machine out. You're selling one of the components of a machine, presumably to someone who has the same machine and therefore the proper license to use those discs.

I have seen these for sale all over eBay. Just make sure you note that they are for a 21" iMac model. You'll probably want to note the revision or model number, since the discs are usually specific to a series or particular machine.

Hi -

Thanks - the main thing I was worried about was if there would be any licensing issues, the machine that was stolen was password protected, so I am hoping they would have had to get new software installed in order to use it.

The discs are not serialized - so just because those discs were used to install the OS for your machine, doesn't mean the disc is tied to you specifically.
