OSX wont boot... plz help

Alright well i have in iMac intel 3.06 ghz... but my problem is when i try and boot up osx i get the white screen with the apple and the circle thing spinning but it wont ever load... luckily i have windows in bootcamp so im able to still use my computer and i am able to select windows as a startup location... i have tried to directly boot osx on startup and i have tried using bootcamp from windows to restart on the osx partition and it is not working... please help.

Let's check the hard drive and file system: Boot the machine with your install DVD (Leopard, Snow Leopard). Hold down the OPTION key after you hear the POST chime and then select the DVD to boot from.

After booting, escape out of the install process and select Utilities, Disk Utility from the top menu. Select the First Aid tab. Highlight the drive and select verify and repair. Also run repair disk permissions. Post back results.

(It's possible the hard drive may have problems so that OS X won't start even though you can still boot to Windows.)
