Ok, I am having a huge horrible problem with my iMac connecting to my router downstairs through wi-fi, every time it connects, a few minutes later or sometimes even be hours, it'll disconnect and when I try and connect again it'll ask for the network password. Once i put it in I press ok, and it says that the connection has timed out and won't let me connect to my sky broadband router. It know its my iMac because my xbox 360 connects to the router flawlessly through wi-fi and that is right next to my iMac.

I have been unable to find a fix anywhere on the net.

Please someone help me :)

Thanks

Chris

Routers generally play nicer the higher up they're located. In a two story home, it's usually better to have it on the second story.

A few other things to take into account:

1. Make sure there are no other wireless devices in the vicinity of your Mac or the router. These would include cordless phone bases and baby monitors. Also microwave ovens are known to cause interference, if there happens to be one between your Mac and the router.

2. Experiment with different channels on the router. Changing the channel varies the frequency just enough to segregate it from other routers in your neighborhood and devices that run on similar frequencies.

3. Make sure SSID broadcast is turned *ON* and that you are using WPA or WPA2 security.
