Quicktime wont Play .mpg PLEASE HELP!!!

I keep trying to play a movie on my computer, it says in finder info that it is a .mpg movie file, yet when I try to open it quicktime tells me it is not a movie file

Try VideoLAN Client (VLC) and see if it can open them. Also try installing Perian. Perian is a near-complete compilation of all the various codecs available for Quicktime.

I suggest trying Perian first, maybe you don't need an additional application. But VLC will play almost anything. I just like to stick with Quicktime if possible (Perian also lets you then play all those videos within Front Row).

i am having the same problem the video will play in vlc but will not in qucktime i got Perian but hasnt helped is there anything that can help fount row play this .mpg file
