iTunes group compilations not working

This wasn't a big deal to me before, but with the album view available in iTunes 7, it's starting to really frustrate me. I hate flipping through and seeing some album covers over and over again, since they are compilations. For example, back in '99, I bought a benefit album for the Kosovar refugees that has a different artist for each track. The cover pops up about every 10 covers in that mode.

I tried checking "group compilations" in the preferences menu, but that didn't do anything, and YES the album is marked as being a compilation and is all stored together in the same folder in my iTunes Music directory.

I know this post is old, but I had this same problem and couldn't find anything on how to fix it. I figured it out on my own so here is the answer.

When grouping a soundtrack or compilation into a "compilation" and you still have certain artists who are grouped separately, then be sure to clear the sort fields in those song(s) that say "Album Artist". This field seems to override a compilation grouping so clearing them out lets them join the rest of the compilation group you are trying to create.

Thanks MellowYellow. It works like a charm, I deleted all the info that was in the Album Artist section for all the songs. By clicking next at the bottom, I didn't have to right click on every song in the same compilation... part of compilation is now working

There was nothing in my "Album Artist" field but I cleared it anyway (in the selected multiple file info box), clicked the box and saved... then I watched 150 duplicate album covers disappear! Thanks for the tip MellowYellow.
