No, in Brave and I guessed in Chrome too there is an icon in the tool bar (looks like a camera). I press that. It shows a pacman like animation then I download the image as PDF or other.

Thanks - now I know what to look for as an icon.

It seems the extension for Chrome (or Brave) was never actually installed when I installed it from the link that Nick posted a while back.
So I will have another shot at it.

When downloading the extension for Chrome, I went to the developer's website to download it there - that just brought me back to the original page that Nick posted and I wasn't sure if any extension was even downloaded.
Since I had no little camera icon in chrome, I assume not.

So I went back and looked for another download button and now have the extension.
Works the way Rod described it.
Issues I have for my purposes:
1. If I download the pdf option, the pdf file is broken up into several pages with page breaks at random. In my current example I end up with three pages with page breaks in the wrong place.
2. If I download the png file, the resolution is only 72 dpi - I was hoping for more. I didn't really expect to end up with my monitor screen resolution since I'm downloading a webpage.
I have to see if the webpage png image looks any better than the jpg file I get in FireFox.
Better resolution was the reason I was looking for a png file rather than a jpg file.

I wish the developer would provide a bit more information about what one actually gets when using that Mac application considering they want to get paid for that and don't have a trial option.
I know it's only $2.- US, but it's more the principle - I like to know what I'm getting when I shell out some cash.

IIRC, Cocktail (get the specific one for your version of macOS) will let you change the format of the screenshot to JPG / PNG / PDF / maybe others.

It's just a pref setting, so you can also do it in terminal.

And for those who may need this - the screenshot key combinations are more in-depth than most people think. You can also use it to take a shot of a specific menu, for example:

Click the file menu so it expands

Press Command-Shift-4 (release)

Press <space>

Your cursor is now a camera icon. Hover it over the expanded File menu and click - you'll get a screenshot of just that menu. Slick - and useful if you're trying to show someone how to find something in a program menu with visual aids.

Not sure if this wil help anyone, but when I want to take a screenshot of a web page in Safari that is not all showing in the open window at the time, I simply use Command - (minus) sign and repeat until the entire page is visible in the window. Then I take the screen shot and use Command + (plus) to return to the original size. Works every time for me to get a .png file.

That would work for a page that maybe is a couple of pages long, but what happens if it's many more than that, once your shrink it all down to fit on a page it might end up being VERY tiny and PNG and others do not scale well if you want to zoom in. For that you need Scalar or Vector graphics format which is not what would be the output.

Set page size to extra long, and print to pdf.

I've had this problem, and my solution has been to set the page size to something large, like 11x72 (good for 6 normal pages), and then use the print command to save as PDF.
Open in Preview, export as png, and you're done.

Firefox dev tools has built in functionality. If you don't like the file type saved, you can export to your clipboard. Then past in preview and save to whatever you like.

I just use the right click option in Firefox - no need to go to dev tools.

The problem I thought I had in Firefox was that it saved in jpg, ie a compressed image file rather than png or tiff - converting from jpg to png wouldn't make it a true png file with no compression.
But then, when I checked the resolution of the screen shot, it turns out to be no different for a jpg or png file - so my initial reason to want a png file to get higher resolution turns out to be a red herring.

One option Firefox offers that I have not seen with any other browser, is that one can select part of a long web page and take a screen shot of that.
Many web pages I visit have a body of information in the centre with ads on the left and right - being able to select just the centre portion of the complete web page and taking a screen shot of that saves quite a bit of time if one needs to do that often.

hi from mac you no need any browsers to add ons to take a screenshot ( selective)... Its very simple press "COMMAND +SHIFT+4" then drag the area you wanted to take a screenshot. it will be automatically stored in desktop as .png file.

Totally agree. Full Page Screen Cature extension is very easy to use in Chrome.
Sometimes, I run a full page screenshot and then edit the screenshot with my photoshop.

Do you have an option in your System Preferences -> Display to set the resolution at a higher level that may allow you to see the complete webpage???

Don't suppose that using command + "-" (minus) would shrink the page small enough to capture all that you want, but just maybe.

I'm not sure why this came up again more than a month after the last reply.

But just as an update - FireFox seems to have changed the software again with recent updates.
Now I'm getting png images again for any size screen shot.

And for me, time is valuable, so I prefer to be able to select the option of a web page I want to capture in one operation rather than the whole web page and then start editing.
