How can I record internal sound on my MBP?

I checked the archives and amazing didn't see a convo on this topic. Please point me the way if I'm wrong!

I want to record internal sound on my Mac, specifically the sound streaming off of a couple websites that have audio of poets reading poems. How can I do that? I know of Audio Hijack. Is there anything free that works well?

Google is your friend to use for stuff like this. Try a search like this:

Some of the hits may be out of date for what's available today, especially to do any decent audio capture FREE, probably something you might be interested in.
Some of the methods may not be available to you depending on what model Mac you have.

Don't you have QuickTime? You don't say which version of macOS you're running or for that matter anything at all about which Mac you have. However, you should have QuickTime which will record audio for you.

It can be done but might not be as straightforward as one might expect. We really need to know which Mac you're using and which OS is involved.

If your Mac is old enough to to have separate mic and headphone connections (older ones do newer ones not so much) the process can be dead simple. IIRC the last time I did this I needed to add a small piece of software to route sound correctly.

Don't you have QuickTime?

I don't know how well this would work, but I noticed in my QT v 10.x it has an option:
Go File > Open Location...

And then just enter the URL of the source. It sounds nice and easy but I don't know how one has any control of what one wants to record.

Sly probably remembers when they used to supply and include a separate Apple quicksomething type microphone as well, and then the revolt when Apple stopped supplying one with the purchase of a new Mac, maybe around the G3 or G4 era.

Oh yes, remember those days when our kids and their friends spent hours recording burp and fart type noises on the Mac along with all their giggles.

Maybe I should have kept some to add to their baby picture albums.

I wonder how the OP made out as I notice they seem to have been around as a member for quite a few years now. But most Macs had a built-in microphone in that era.

I remember those days well. I personally never recorded fart sounds bu didn't object if someone chose to do so.

Were you thinking of the PlainTalk microphones? They were OK but I wouldn't necessarily use them for what the OP wants to do because the recording will pick up a certain amount of external noise if you try to record from the Mac's speaker.

On Macs the have separate mic and headphone jacks I think it was possible to connect the mic and headphone jacks together using a readily available cable. This program seems to do what is needed but it's not free ($19 US). If this is a one off, short recording the ten minute demo might be sufficient.
