macOS Mojave 10.14.2 (latest version)
Microsoft Word for Mac 16.20 (181208) (latest version)

Format > Borders and Shading > Page Border

When selecting an "Art" border that is black and white (and thus allows a solid color to be applied), the color you select does not apply, applies a different color than the one selected, or even applies a different color behind the border. I've already reported this to Microsoft, but just wondering if I'm the only one experiencing this issue or if any of you out there can reproduce this?

Here are some examples:

1. Color does not apply at all

2. Different color applies than the one selected
(and in this case applies in an inconsistent way)

3. Different color than selected applies behind the border

If anyone reading this would be kind enough to check if their copy of MS Word for Mac is doing the same thing (and confirm their macOS and MS Word for Mac versions), I'd be most grateful. Also, I've reported bugs (especially in MS PowerPoint for Mac) to Microsoft years ago that are still not fixed (example), so if any of you know if there's a way to get around this issue, that would be awesome!

Well Jonathan,

Although not really having a clue as to what I was doing, I followed what you were doing - and, sorry for you, I got the colours matched exactly correct. Of which is a screen shot below. All my colours matched yours although I've just shown the one screenshot.

My specs are shown under my avatar. Word on my iMac is part of Office for Mac 2011.

Don't know how I can help further, but more than willing to try.

Ian, maybe you have printer selected for use?

Jonathan, maybe you have your printer selected, but it's set up as black & white only print option?

I just tried it with Word 16.20 (181208) from Office 365, updated from Microsoft, on my MBP with Mojave 10.14.2 and I get exactly what usagora did, wrong colors or no colors. And my printer is set up properly as a color inkjet printer. So the problem is real. Now, what is causing it?

Good question, Bob. As it turns out, my printer is set to default, which is Colour.

You'll have to educate me here - I don't see how a printer setting would matter if you are working within Word and your printer is in Idle Mode (standby).

Anyway, there clearly is a problem. And believe me, I haven't a clue. All I did was replicate Jonathan's settings, having never needed to do this before.

It had to do with "Page Setup". back when I had my G4, using Office for Mac 2004, I came across this issue at home, but not at work.

So in this instance, I thought it might have to do with what is selected in Page Setup or Printer Setup in M$ Office?

Thank you everyone for the responses! I should have mentioned a couple things. I do not use page borders very often. The only time I use them is for two certificates I print out for a class I teach. The last time I printed them would have been May 2018 and at that time in whatever version of Word I was running then (would have been the most current version of Word for Office 365 available at that time), they were still fine. And I have used these same certificates for many years (going back to when I was using Office 2011) without issue. When I opened one of these certificates on Sunday, January 6, 2019, I noticed the border had lost its color and then upon investigation discovered the bug I described in the OP. So the bug was introduced between May 2018 and January 2019. Nothing has changed in my setup (including printer settings) except my macOS version and MS Word for Mac version.

Jake was able to reproduce this with the same version of macOS and Word that I have. I'd be curious if anyone running the most current version of Word on a previous macOS version (High Sierra or earlier) is also experiencing the same issue.
