This keeps popping when downloading files from above browsers.

Read that my Mac was infected with this application.

Can not find anywhere how to remove.

Can not find app in my Launch Agents folder on my iMac (El Capitan)

How do I get rid of this thing. Even selecting it does not launch it, very annoying.

Happens when downloading zip files.

I have no idea what this is on my iMac. I can find no reference anywhere for anything name ProntoApp.

This has been popping up for a while and when I click on it nothing happens.

I have to download and save the file, and open with standard .exe expander.

Pronto is malware. Run Malwarebytes for Mac and get rid of it. .exe files are Windows only.

I did run Malwarebytes and it did not get rid of it. Or maybe it is gone but this is a alias.

It is showing up in my browsers preferences as a default file choice.

If you've run the latest version/update of Malwarebytes, did it recognise ProtoApp as Malware (which my reading tells me this is)? Did it offer to quarantine the app or delete it?

If it identified it as present, then reboot the Mac. I've found before, that Malwarebytes sometimes requires this as a final necessary step to rid yourself of this nuisance.

In Finder, go to any zip file. Right click on it and select Get Info. Click on the lock on the bottom and enter an admin password. Now in the window you should see "Open with" and a box that will probably show ProntoApp. click the up/down arrow and pick what you want to use to open zip files, then click on the "Change All..." box and all the documents should now open with your choice and not ProntoApp.

You should also get either Find Any File or EasyFind and search for "Pronto" on your drive and get rid of any files that remain from that app.

Thanks for your help. I did run Free Malwarebytes on the Mac and it did not find anything, congratulations you are clean.

However, I did run EasyFind and it did find some stuff.

Should I just delete all of these files? Not sure if that will get rid of Prontoapp!

Which of these files is responsible for Prontoapp showing as a default choice on this iMac?

Thanks it is gone. I deleted all the files shown in Easy Find and it is gone.

Thanks you, Happy New Year!
