email client without unified mailbox?

I really don't like Apple Mail with its unified inbox. I have a lot of email accounts and prefer to keep their contents separated and organized. Wish I could still use an older version of Mail before unified inboxes, but Apple won't allow that.

Any suggestions for alternatives? I've tried Thunderbird, which does have discrete inboxes, but hate that Mozilla refuses to have an option to automatically move spam to the junk folder. Their rationale that it can sometimes catch mail that isn't really junk is dumb. That's the exception rather than the rule. I can check the junk mail folder and quickly see if the odd legitimate mail is in it, and that's preferable to deleting lots of spam manually every day. Tried Spark, but don't like the layout and it has a unified inbox.

What is supposed to be the advantage of a unified inbox anyway? I honestly don't see it. I don't want to have to open a message to know which account it came in through.

Welcome to our forums.

Not too many good email clients around anymore. I also like Thunderbird since it's cross platform compatible but since I only have two accounts, I no longer use it. You might want to take a look at "Airmail 3" in the Mac App Store to see if that will work for you.

I thought that I had missed something in Mojave when I read this ^^ But then I searched the Web for screenshots of Mail under Mojave, and it looks to me as if you have the same ability to create as many mailboxes as you like as you always have.

To create a new mailboxes in Apple Mail...
Go into: Mailbox menu --> New Mailbox...
and give your new mailbox a name.
You can now go into: Mail menu --> Preferences --> Rules
and create rules for what incoming mail should be moved into that new mailbox.

Still don't like Apple's Mail? There are, by my count, about 30 alternatives. Here are just a few very popular ones you can have a look at. Let me know if you would like more suggestions:

GyazMail ($18)

Some folks think that Apple ripped off this program to come up with Mail. So it's easy to adapt to. It's like Mail done right.

In Mail 12.2 using Mojave 10.14.2, if you click the down arrow, next to "Inbox" you will see all your individual account inboxes, do you have this ability as well? Then when you select an account inbox, then you will see only the email from that account.

For the OP, welcome to the forum. I have to admit I don't even understand the issue. I have an integrated Inbox, if I want to see all my mail in one place, and under it, as Bob has pointed out, there are individual inboxes for each account. So, for the OP, what is the real issue?

I don't use Mail on MacOS, but I would assume it would be just like it is on iOS as you described: there's an integrated inbox, but you can also view each account individually.

Here's a screenshot from Apple's website that clearly shows that you can select individual inboxes:

Maybe the OP's sidebar menu is collapsed and they just need to click the little arrow next to "Inbox".
