I don't use windows but on my system (shows in my profile) Word opens in 5 seconds. That's a bit short of "forever."

    Ditto for me.

    So, something not quite right.

I know you say you have the latest version of Word - and I'm assuming you mean Word as contained in Office for the Mac - but are we talking Office 2008, 2011, 2016? Or 365 subscription, of course?

And you've no doubt mentioned it in a previous thread, but which Operating System (OS) are you running?

    Thanks, Rocky97,

And the version of Office for Mac, please?

With not much to go on, I have to assume that's where Word came from.

I think to do a proper comparison...we would need to be:

    - Comparing the exact same version of MS Word.
    - Both computers used in the comparison (Apple computer & Windows computer)...would need to be similarly spec'ed.
    - And both computers running in tip-top condition.

I haven't used Office in a while, but is there or should there be something in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items?

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Bob, nothing there on my system. Normally slow opening apps indicate either a drive problem or maybe an installation issue. And as for comparing on similar systems, I would agree, but if he's seeing "forever" and I'm getting 5 seconds, that's a bigger difference than should be, no matter the systems.

2017 MBP running Mojave 10.14.2 and Word 16.20 for Mac. The first I launched it on my machine after a restart it took about 25 seconds to start up and also since this was the first time after the Mojave install, I got a prompt about their Dark Mode support.

I quit (CMD+q) and then launched it again 3 times and the subsequent launches were all within 3 seconds, the fastest being 2.19 seconds.

In general I've found that the Office apps do take a bit of time to launch and if I find that I need to use them often (I rarely do these days), I tend to just leave it running even closing all the windows just so that I don't have to wait when I need to use it quickly.

Define "forever" so we have something to compare. I'm running the latest 365 versions of the MS Office apps on Mojave, and though the first launch of one of the apps after a restart tends to be a little slow, usually subsequent launches take only a second or two. It was the same for me back when I was running Sierra too.
