Hi, keep getting an annoying pop-up when i restart my macbook - quick google and search of the forum and i cannot see any reference to it...

Anyone have any ideas? Not sure if it a straggler from when i uninstalled Onyx...

We moved your post here to macOS Apps and Games since it's really not a Switcher subject.

It appears that you have the Anti Malwarebytes application that starts up automatically when you boot up your machine. It's possible that it's trying to update the Malware signature data base and fails. This has nothing to do with uninstalling OnyX. And if we may ask..... why did you uninstall OnyX? OnyX is a program that we highly recommend.

Check your start up items and also at the same time click on the small icon that the Malwarebytes places at the top right of your screen. That will open the Malwarebytes options and from there you can remove it from starting up automatically.

Do not know what it may be, but suggest runnning only Malwarebytes for Mac.

Download from this link, do not register and after 30 days it switches to the free version. Go ninto System Prewferewnces > users & Groups > Startup Items and make sure this is not there. If so, click on locked padlock, enter password, select and hit the little (-) button.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply...before posting i checked the login items for the user account and anti malware bytes isnt on the list and i don't recall ever installing it...

As for Onyx, i am using onedrive with files on demand but found that onyx would download them to the local storage and even when i block Onyx from downloading (assume to do some sort of scan of the files) it still downloads the files...

Very strange indeed. If you have never installed the Anti Malwarebytes program, I'm wondering why it's trying to update its signature data base? Are you sure the Malwarebytes program is not installed? Is there a small icon in the upper right side of your screen that maybe you're not recognizing?

As for OnyX, I have never known it to move or download anything. OnyX will perform a maintenance scan of your entire hard drive which may include those files you have in OneDrive. When OnyX runs, it takes full control of the system and then after finishing the scan it reboots. Normally everything is left in place.

Have reinstalled malwarebytes - i may have installed it at some point in the past when i first got my macbook a month or so ago...As for Onyx, it is definetely downloading files from onedrive - i get a notification saying that it is doing so and to either allow, cancel or block (block being the option for it to never try and download it again). Pressing cancel or block doesn't stop the file downloading and i have to go to Onedrive and cancel the sync to local storage. Was being lazy when i uninstalled - rather than fixing the problem i just got rid. Will take another look, thanks again for the replies...

Make sure you get the right version of OnyX for your version of the OS. Like chscag says, OnyX never moves files. Where did you get OnyX? The only legitimate place to get is is at https://www.titanium-software.fr so go there to get it. And leave it as it is set for defaults. The developer has set it for the optimum configuration.

Just out of curiosity, what files were being moved? I use OnyX with OneDrive and have never seen any file movement ever.

Are you sure the Malwarebytes program is not installed?

I didn't notice that Malwarebytes.app was even mentioned or installed and that icon is nothing to do with Malwarebytes but sure is for ClamXav.app

I would check ClamXav.app and any of its updates.

Nice catch Patrick. It appears that the villain is really ClamXav.app. Hopefully the OP will uninstall the app and get rid of that warning that pops up. Sure looked like it was Malwarebytes.

Thanks Charlie.

As good as ClamXav.app was, especially back in it's day, and I used to use it, I would say the user base that might actually be able to benefit from using it would be quite small these days. Very small. :Smirk:

Plus the fact that it also went commercial at quite a hefty price IMHO, and now I believe it's also gone to a subscription base payment that's even more expensive. Not for this guy thank you ClamXav!!!
