I just bought an iPad Air 5 (2017). Entered all my needed details including a current credit card, then I made a purchase which completed and downloaded the App with no problems. A while later I set about ordering a different App, and got to the pay screen where you use your finger print to complete the transaction, the print recognition was OK, but then a message pops up saying "unable to complete transaction" with no explanation of why?
Anyone have any experience of this problem, as any help would be appreciated?:

I'd try again. I say this, not as insult to your intelligence, but because this has happened to me on a few occasions.

The reason? Well, it could be that the servers were down or overly busy; it could be an interrupted WiFi connection at your end; bad luck, whatever.

I've, so far, always found that trying again after a short time completes the transaction.

If no luck on next try, please come back and can take things forward.

You were spot on! Tried again today and the order went through without a problem.
But there must be a problem with the App Store payment system because this shouldn't happen at all, unless they enjoy loosing customers?:Mischievous:

Yes, it's amazing. Never know what really happened, but it works. As I said, happened to me too.

Anyway, thanks for posting back and glad you were, eventually, successful:)

In a perfect world where everything is done without error, that would never happen. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world; in other words, even Apple is not perfect. O:) :p

Aggghhhh... you mean all those Apple fanboys I've heard preaching over the years haven't been completely honest??? For shame. :|

Just joking. Actually they've been very good to me generally speaking over the years.

Me too. I've always received good information from the Apple genius' whether by phone or in person. Of course nowadays Apple Stores are a nightmare with overcrowded conditions most of the time. Our Apple Store is only 15 minutes away but it usually takes that long to just find a parking space. And if you have to park several blocks away and lug a 27" iMac to the genius bar in the middle of Texas Summer..... AAAARGH!

My wife runs a business, so we have a credit card processing service to use cards. About 1 in 100 times we get an error back on a card that if we try again goes through just fine. We attribute it to either a network error, or a bit getting flipped somewhere. Given how many thousands of transactions Apple must be processing every day, having a few throw an error is just to be expected. I've seen it happen, just wait 5 minutes and it works fine on retry.

I would have thought you would be using one of those three-wheel bicycles with a large carry basket down there, Ghee, it's sure flat enough going by the photos on Google Maps.

Heck, that looks like an ideal place to use one of the battery assist models and maybe even get the turbo-boot models. But then you'd get a ticket for speeding no doubt.

We don't have an Apple Store anywhere close by but they all sure look boring with just plain tables with some Apple stuff on them, but I understand lots of people like to go there, at least to stand and wait!! I hardly ever see a chair available in the photos so I guess I'd be OK taking my four-wheel walker for a place to sit.

Quite likey every minute if not every second!! And especially approaching the Christmas gift giving season.

Quit amazing really how all the various electronic transactions work so smoothly most of the time.
