I had to buy Office 365 because parts of my outdated Word version stopped working.

To be more accurate, I didn't buy Office because I couldn't. I had to rent it for about $70 per year.

The default blank page that pops up when I open Word is what I want in all respects except the typeface and size. How do I change the default to what I want?

When I open a saved doc, it comes up as a little box window at the upper left of my screen. How do I change the default so a saved doc opens at full screen size?

I've searched Preferences for both topics but haven't found them.

You might do better asking your questions at a Microsoft support website.

I think you can open a new document, set the fonts you want and then click "File" and "Save as Template" and give the template a name. Then open documents with that new template and the font will be what you set.

As for the window size, try opening Word, then a document and drag the window to the size you want, then Close and Exit Word. When you restart, it should remember the window size you set it to. I don't think you can default it to open in full screen but you can get there by clicking on the Green dot in the upper left corner of the window.

I'll second what Jake stated that you'll probably get a better answer from the MS Mac Office Forums.

However, my experience with your problem (from previous versions of Word) is that you need to change the Normal Template for Word. I know how to do it for Word 2011 but do not know how to do it for Office 2016 or Office 2019.

Did a bit of exploring in Word, version 16.19.

Open a document, set what you want for the font and sizes. then on the Tools menu on the top bar, there should be a "Templates & add-ins.." option. Click that and a window open that has "Organizer" at the bottom. Click on that and one of the listed templates is Normal. That's the default template. You should be able to use the "Copy->" button to pick a variable in the document and move it to the Normal.dotm window. Then click "Yes" to overwrite what is in Normal.dotm and save the result. Now a new document should open with the font you want.

EDIT: But frankly I would not modify Normal, but create a new template the way I said in the first place. Normal is the default for everything in Word.

OK, windows are opening at full page size now.

Changing the default font is at Font in the Format menu. You choose your default font then click default in the lower left corner. The app says what you've chosen and asks you to confirm.

Both problems solved. Thanks for the assist!
