Hello All - I've been using iMazing for a number of years but mainly for minor transfers of files - about to replace my aging iPad Air 2 likely w/ the new iPad Pro and possibly my wife's older iPhone - I've only done two iPad upgrades using iTunes which worked fine. I've made backups of my iPad Air 2 using iMazing and see that a restoration can be done - for those who have used this app for restoring an older to a newer iDevice, what has your experience been? Does it work, is it easier than using iTunes or iCloud, and is it reliable? Thanks for any comments and advise. Dave :)

Dave I have done one restore with iMazing to a new iPhone from a previous backup with no problems at all. Cetainly faster than iCloud.
Note you can do iOS upgrades as well as Restore with iMazing as well now.
Has kinda made iTunes redundant for me except for my music library and I beginning to wonder about that as well.
I do however backup my iDevices to iCloud via WiFi just for a bit of added insurance.

Dave

I've been using iMazing for some considerable time.

You can BU, obviously. You can choose where your BUs are stored (eg EHD) and how long you want to keep a BU (for ever, 4 weeks, 2 weeks etc).

You can upgrade or update via iMazing.

You can manage your apps - read their instructions on how to do this - this allows for app refreshment on a new device.

You can restore. You can also use iMazing to recover from DFU mode.

Never had any problems. In my case, being a belt & braces man, I also BU to iTunes AND iCloud - well, you'd expect me to, wouldn't you!

iMazing has removed the need to use iTunes at all - if that is a person's wish. That may assist those where there is a compatibility issue between a newish iDevice and an older OS/iTunes.

On top of that Ian, I have been using the macOS Spotify app to play iTunes music library as well as playlists from Spotify which is all mirrored on my iOS devices and even my Apple watch if I wish. One of the other cool things about the watch is that it acts like a remote control for the iPhone.

Thanks Rod & Ian for your experienced comments - I've also had the app a while but as said have not explored its many (and newer) features - will certainly now not hesitate using iMazing for backups and restorations to new devices - I also still do iTunes & iCloud BUs of our iDevices just for extra assurance. Dave :)

You may also discover that iMazing is much more complete and backs up all apps which is very welcome compared to Apple's method which doesn't and rather annoying when one discovers that application X is no longer in the app store and doesn't get reinstalled of course. Gone forever, unlike iMazing which can restore all the apps etc. it backed up.
